ABB plans to greatly increase robot production in China

ABB will produce more service and industrial robots in China, which can be used in the new energy vehicle, 5G, consumer electronics, and healthcare sectors. The Switzerland-based technology company also plans to open a new robotics factory in Shanghai in 2021, with a production capacity of around 100,000 industrial service robots per year, a quarter of the world’s total production capacity in 2019.

Sami Atiya, president of ABB’s robotics and discrete automation business, stated that China’s new infrastructure plan presents great opportunities for foreign companies. For ABB, the opportunities are that many of its Chinese customers will have to enhance their manufacturing capability.
