China 2020 Economic Report

The China Economic Report is a bi-annual paper released by the Swiss embassy which analyzes China’s economic situation. These are the most important points of the December report:

  • China’s economy is going through a v-shaped recovery
  • Consumer confidence is picking up
  • Concerns regarding urban employment remain, companies aren’t recruiting that much
  • Inward foreign direct investment improved
  • China’s foreign trade was first hit hard by the pandemic but recovered quickly in Q3
  • By the end of October, Swiss exports to China decreased by 22.7 percent year-on-year
  • Imports from China to Switzerland grew by 8.8 percent
  • There was no large-scale stimulus package in China and the government was cautious with fiscal and monetary policies
  • 14th Five Year Plan: switch from a high-speed to a high-quality development model and focus more on domestic development instead of export
