JD.com plans using blockchain to track beef imports

JD.com will use blockchain technology in order to prove the authenticity of its meat to the customers.

When the technology is implemented in July, customers will be able to receive information such as how their meat has been transported, where it has been, how it was processed and how the specific animal has been raised.

Blockchain is often used for food tracking, it can for example help grocery stores to track the source of a food borne illness. In China, it will be useful to ensure customers that their imported meat is really imported and not simply some counterfeit product, food safety has a high priority for Chinese consumers as there are still many fake products on the market.
