Switzerland exported around 120 tons of gold in January, over half of it went to Asia (90 tons) and over one third of it to China (41.5 tons), Chinese imports of Swiss gold increased by 60 percent.
Switzerland is a very important country for the gold trade, it produces 70% of the world’s refined gold. For a long time, this wasn’t a well-known fact, as Swiss gold imports and exports have not been listed in the country’s external trade statistics, probably mostly due to the “dark side of the Swiss gold trade”.
